Where Anderson’s book falls apart is in its attempt to use the long tail as an explanation of the way all business is heading. Like so many business books, it makes the mistake of taking a good observation and implying that it applies to just about every sort of business.
I have followed with interest reviews from around the world of Chris Anderson’s new book The Long Tail. All made possible by simply setting up a google alert. Leon Gettler’s review in todays The Age is a good case in point. Until recently I would never have seen this review unless I happened to be passing through Oz or someone there took the time to forward me a copy. Hosting a dinner last night for friends who helped out on dino inc Linda’s toast to how truly fortunate we all were to be living in such interesting times was met with a roar of approval. While our guest of honour never made it I’m sure he would have agreed.
