Graham Copley, HSBC’s global head of equity research, has told senior managers that many of the bank’s analysts do not deserve to be paid this year because of the often “worthless” notes they dash off following company announcements. Is he right?

Graham Copley’s memo to his direct reports published in yesterdays FT.com as well as the follow-on discussion and poll in todays FT.com have sparked a number of conversations this morning. Each have highlighted many of the challenges facing organisations as they begin the transition to a digital world which is turning current practices upside down and inside out. Interesting times indeed.
