There are three times the number of mobile phones as there are computers, so the phone should be a bigger developer platform than PCs or Macs. Schmidt posited that very few companies are prepared for this next wave. At the same time, in these network businesses, the race is for the entire market. As a result, he's watching for several businesses with the scale and success of Google.

Christine Herron has a great post which captures the essence of Eric Schmidt's speech at the NVCA 2006 Annual Meeting. His recommended areas of investment was particularly insightful. Speaking with peers from around the world on skype yesterday each remarked how the thought leaders within their respective regions had already retooled or are in the midst of retooling for the next wave. Interesting times indeed.
